Month of May: Key Dates to Remember



May is one of the most exciting and joy filled months of the year in Indiana. The longstanding tradition of the Indianapolis 500 makes the state come alive unlike any other month of the year. May also becomes one of the busiest months of the year for lots of us. Below is a list of the key dates to remember re: Indy 500 related events & activities!

 

May 1: Kick Off to May Event:

  • Free event from 11am-1pm on Monument Circle, Downtown Indianapolis. Family friendly, no tickets required. Check out all event info, here.


May 4: Indy Mini Marathon

  • Half marathon with a running route from downtown Indianapolis to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and back. More information and the route, here.


May 11: 500 Festival Kids Day & Rookie Run

  • Free event from 11am-3pm on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis. Carnival style celebration welcome to families and kids of all ages and abilities. Kids must register for Rookie Run ($10) to participate. More info about kids day, here.


May 11: Sonsio Grand Prix

  • Gates open at 7:30am at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Race starts at 3:30pm. Kids 15 and under are free to enter with a paid adult ticket. Tickets required. 


May 14-17, + May 20: Indy 500 Practice

  • Gates open at 10am at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Practice times vary per day. Kids 15 and under are free with paid adult admission. Free parking. Great option to check out the track without the crowds! Perfect event for families with young kids. Tickets required. 


May 18-19: Indy 500 Qualifications

  • Gates open at 8am at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Kids 15 and under are free with paid adult admission. Tickets required. 


May 24: Carb Day

  • George Thorogood & The Destroyers will headline the Miller Lite Carb Day Concert. Tickets required. 


May 25: Indianapolis 500 Parade

  • Festivities kick off at 11:45 am, and the parade begins at noon. Downtown Indianapolis. Tickets required. 


May 25: Legends Day

  • Driver autograph sessions happening at Indianapolis Motor Speedway from 8-11am. Riley Green headlines Legends Day concert at White River State Park amphitheatre at 7pm. Separate tickets required for concert and Legends Day at IMS.


May 25: Rockin’ on Main

  • 5pm-10pm, Main St. Speedway, IN. Free event. Clayton Anderson and My Yellow Rickshaw perform live for a fun party in the streets in the town of Speedway. Family friendly, kid zone and face painting.


May 26: 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500


May 26: Snake Pit

  • DJ, producer and festival creator Excision will headline an all-star lineup including Dom Dolla, Gryffin, Sullivan King and Timmy Trumpet also will perform. Tickets required.
