Most of us visit a pumpkin patch, or an apple orchard, or a trick or treating event this fall….but with so many options and limited time, which should you choose? Insert the KUIC Fall Favorites list. An annual list published to help you narrow down all the fall activities to ones that come recommended by me and the KUIC community.
This list was built based on my personal experiences as well as input from the KUIC community. We all only have a few cherished weekends in the fall, so be sure to check this list for activities that I recommend are worth your precious time!
Dulls Tree Farm
1765 W. Blubaugh Avenue Thorntown, IN
It’s listed first on this list for reason. Dull’s Tree Farm Pumpkin Harvest is by far our family’s favorite fall activity and was the overwhelming pick from the KUIC community. If you are looking for the best fall day with your family, take the ~30min drive northwest of Carmel and go to Dulls.

Apple Picking at Tuttles Orchard (East) or Stuckey Farms (West)
Depending on what side of town you live, I’d recommend either of these orchards for apple picking and a fun fall day! Both locations have super fun play areas for kids, wagon rides, u-pick apples, and all the yummy fall treats.

Pumpkin Town Train at Sullivan’s Hardware
11405 Allisonville Rd, Fishers, IN
Many are familiar with the Sullivan Hardware Christmas train, but the train to Pumpkin Town is my favorite Sullivan event. You and your crew hop in a train car on the Sullivan Express and it takes you out to PumpkinTown—a fall festival in itself. There is music and drinks for the adults and lots of fun activities for the kids. Trick or treat trail, pumpkin painting, hay bales to climb—and you can stay in pumpkin town as long as you want! Just grab a train car back when you are ready to leave.
Tickets required and still available for the season. One ticket = one train car.
Headless Horseman at Conner Prairie
13400 Allisonville Rd, Fishers, IN
A Indy area staple, The Headless Horseman festival has something for all ages, even those who are looking for a little scare. Not all areas of the festival are scary, but there are some aspects that you can choose to explore (haunted hayride, trail of terror) that are a good option for those looking for a little fright.
Open Thursday - Sundays in October. Tickets required.
Harvest Nights at Newfields
4000 Michigan Road, Indianapolis, Indiana
A great fall date night or family friendly outing is Harvest Nights at Newfields. An outdoor walk through experience, you will see thousands of illuminated pumpkins and can take a tour of the “haunted” lilly mansion on site. This event is NOT scary and is best viewed after the sun has completely set.
